About Chronic Kidney Disease
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) or chronic renal failure, can be defined as progressive and significant reduction in the functioning of kidney, ultimately leading to health complications due to accumulation of waste and toxins accumulating in the body. Early detection and treatment can often keep chronic kidney disease from getting worse. When kidney disease progresses and reaches dangerous levels(creatinine more than 7 mg/dl), it may eventually lead to kidney failure, which requires dialysis or a kidney transplant to maintain life.
Causes
Main causes being
- Diabetes Mellitus
- Hypertension
- Infection of the kidney
- Obstruction due to renal stone or tumour etc
Symptoms
- General symptoms- swelling pallor, malnutrition, less energy
- Nausea, vomiting
- Weight loss
- Hypertension
- Bone pains, Muscular weakness and cramps at night
- Anaemia
- Dry and Itchy skin
- Increase in risk of having heart disease.
Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease in Homeopathy
Homeopathy is an ideal and effective form of treatment for CKD. Early detection and treatment can often keep chronic kidney disease from getting worse. The prescription is based on the patient’s symptoms and underlying cause of the disease. Though kidneys of all people, might have common actions and functions, the kidneys in each individual might have different afflicting causes and have, therefore, different remedies. This is the basic principle of the science of Homoeopathy.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Nausea.
- Vomiting.
- Loss of appetite.
- Fatigue and weakness.
- Sleep problems.
- Changes in how much you urinate.
- Decreased mental sharpness.
- Muscle twitches and cramps.
CKD has stages starting from mild CKD to End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) which requires dialysis or kidney transplant.
Homeopathy is an ideal and effective mode of treatment for Chronic Kidney Disease. Homeopathic treatment controls the creatinine levels and with regular medicines has been seen to bring it back to normal levels in majority of the patients. In patients who have been put on dialysis, homeopathy can space out the episodes until they may be eventually stopped. In many cases the treatment is curative and in some cases it is palliative depending on what stage patient chooses to start the treatment.

End stage renal disease usually begins with creatinine level of more than 10 mg/dl.
The role of nutrition therapy is to slow the rate of progression of CRF, to maintain nutritional levels and to minimize uraemic toxicity resulting from the disease.
- Protein restriction (in less severe cases-approx 0.6g/Kg per day). Take high biological value protein like egg milk products fish meat.
- Adequate calories to maintain nutritional status.
- Patients usually need Vitamin D supplements
- Iron supplements are often necessary.
Eggs has protein of high biological value. So though the protein intake is to be restricted in CKD patients to approx 0.6 g/Kg per day, 50-70% of this protein intake should be of high biological value protein like eggs, fish, meat and milk products.
In homeopathy the patient’s symptoms are considered in holistic pattern and than the most suitable remedy is prescribed.
Since many patients of CKD have high blood pressure, the patient is supposed to be off caffeine and also has to avoid potassium which might be present in many varieties of green tea.
